The Holmes Safety Association has approved a constitutional amendment and bylaws change and have voted to create a separate organization, the Holmes Mine Rescue Association.
According to MSHA Assistant Secretary Joe Main, the new national organization will provide guidance for mine rescue and will represent the culmination of collaborative efforts by MSHA, the Labor Department's Mine Safety and Health Administration and the mine safety community to address concerns about mine emergency response. The new association will also work to develop best practices for mine rescue and assisting.
