Groups Partner on Workplace Violence Prevention Consensus Standard
Workplace violence is a challenging security and safety concerns today. To help
companies and organizations respond to and become better prepared for such
challenges, ASIS
International and Society
for Human Resource Management (SHRM), have partnered on ASIS/SHRM WVP.1-2011, Workplace Violence Prevention
and Intervention. The standard establishes policies, processes and protocols
that organizations can adopt to identify and prevent threatening behavior and
violence affecting the workplace, and to better address and resolve threats and
violence that have occurred. “Practitioners can use the standard to evaluate
whether their organization is taking sufficient steps to protect employees from
a wide range of problematic behaviors that can compromise workplace safety,” says
ASIS’s Rebecca Speer. “It helps to answer the tough questions: ‘Are we doing
enough?’ ‘Are we doing the right things?’”
