Under the U.S. Federal Railroad Administration's Rail Line Relocation and Improvement competitive grant program, 12 U.S. states will receives funds to help relocate, improve and replace rail track segments. The program aims to enhance safety, economic development and livability within communities. In addition, it funds projects that "reduce to adverse effects of rail infrastructure on safety, motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic, community quality of life or economic development."
