At the end of this month, National Transportation Safety
Board (NTSB) will hold a forum, Attentive Driving: Countermeasures for
Distraction. The agency has published the agenda
for the event, which is open to the public and free of charge. The event
will be held March 27, 2012, in the NTSB Conference Center
in Washington, DC, and will be streamed live via webcast.
Four panels of invited experts from federal and state government,
vehicle manufacturers, safety advocacy groups, law enforcement and the research
community will discuss specific countermeasures to distracted driving. Issues include
legislation, enforcement, changing attitudes and behaviors through education
and outreach, and technological solutions. Panels will also consider the research
on driver distraction that could contribute to reducing distracted driving incidents.
NTSB is accepting materials from organizations and
individuals for inclusion in the forum’s public docket. Submissions should directly
address one or more of the forum’s four topic areas: Attention to Non-Driving
Tasks; Distracted Driving Laws and Enforcement; Attentive Driving: Changing
Attitudes and Behaviors; and Technology and Design Countermeasures. Submissions
should be submitted electronically as an attached document to attentivedriving@ntsb.gov.
