OSHA recently updated its
Heat Safety Tool app, first introduced in 2011. The update gives workers and supervisors the ability to calculate the heat index for their worksite, then displays a risk level to outdoor workers. Users will get reminders about the protective measures that should be taken at that risk level to prevent heat-related illness. These include drinking enough fluids, scheduling rest breaks as well as emergency preparedness and training on heat illness signs and symptoms.
The app is available for both iPhone and Android devices in English and Spanish. For more information about safety while working in the heat, see OSHA's
heat illness page.
