A new OSHA directive provides guidance for agency compliance personnel when inspecting construction work sites where power-operated equipment is present that is covered by the crane and derrick rule, Subpart CC. This is the first compliance directive issued regarding application of this rule.
The new crane standard is complex because its regulatory text makes explicit requirements that were formerly incorporated by reference to many other documents. The directive provides supplemental guidance regarding the enforcement of the new standard.
OSHA's Cranes and Derricks Safety web page provides information, presentations and videos to help explain the revised rule and the hazards involved in crane operations.
