May is National Electrical Safety Month, and the Electrical
Safety Foundation International (ESFI) and WESCO International are working to
raise awareness about workplace electrical safety hazards. Each year, 350
workers suffer fatal electrical incidents and 43,900 home fires are caused by
electrical failures.
WESCO collaborated with ESFI to compile its Electrical Safety Guide, a collection of
case studies, definitions and examples to help protect workers against the most
serious electrical workplace hazards. The guide also includes listings of
safety products and solutions.
Another way WESCO and ESFI are promoting National Electrical
Safety Month is through the How Do You
Know? workplace safety program, put together by ESFI and sponsored by
WESCO. The program features an electrical safety self-assessment to help safety
professionals reexamine their company’s approach to electrical safety. It also
provides information for managers and employees who wish to develop a proactive
approach to electrical safety and it includes a video series to reinforce the
importance of electrical safety programs and compliance with standards and
regulations.
