Fire Prevention Week Fact Sheets and Resources

In the U.S., an average of seven people die each day due to a home fire, and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports an average of 160,220 home structure fires annually.

To raise awareness about fire prevention strategies, NFPA and the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) have formed a partnership to promote Fire Prevention Week, a time designated to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and educate individuals and organizations about fire hazards. This year's Fire Prevention Week takes place Oct. 6 - 12.
