NRC Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Changes to Transporting Radioactive Material

Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) seeks public comment on proposed changes to it regulations for packaging and transporting radioactive material. NRC reports the proposal includes 13 changes that would improve consistency with the International Atomic Energy Agency, of which the current transportation regulations are based. In addition, NRC proposes changes to the requirements for quality assurance programs to allow program amendments to be made without prior NRC approval; changes that would clarify requirements for obtaining a general license; revisions to a fissile material exemption and more.

Public comments may be submitted to Rulemaking.Comments@nrc.gov. The proposed rule is available at www.regulations.gov under Docket ID NRC-2008-0198.
