DHS Announces First National Preparedness Goal

Security against terrorism and other threats continue to be subjects of great concern—across the country, throughout industry and around the globe. In the U.S., Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released its first-ever national preparedness goal. According to DHS, the goal sets the vision for nationwide preparedness and identifies the core capabilities and targets necessary to achieve preparedness across five mission areas: prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery. The ultimate goal of DHS’s efforts: “A secure and resilient nation with the capabilities required across the whole community to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to and recover from the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk.” Find the full goal here.
