ASSE Leaders Continue Society’s Global Outreach

Terrie Norris, Warren Brown and Darryl Hill
represented ASSE during the 7th Annual
HSE Forum in Energy in Qatar.
Three ASSE leaders—current ASSE President Terrie Norris, 2010-11 president Darryl Hill and 2008-09 president Warren Brown—were among the speakers at the 7th Annual HSE Forum in Energy, held Oct. 10-12 in Qatar. More than 300 attendees were on hand. Norris spoke about risk assessments and served on a panel with Brown to discuss how to prepare for future challenges. Brown also presented on confined space rescue. Hill was a member of the conference steering committee, chaired day one of the event, and delivered a talk on industrial and hazardous waste management.

"It is important for ASSE to be involved in international events such as the HSE Forum in Energy," Hill says. "It supports one of the Society goals to foster and sustain a global community among SH&E professionals. It also provides an opportunity to share best practices and lessons learned on a global stage that will advance the SH&E profession and improve SH&E performance." Norris concurs with Hill, adding, "It gave us an opportunity to learn about the safety challenges being faced by other cultures and improve our understanding of their needs. And it gave us an opportunity to reach out to the students attending Texas A&M extension campus to share information on having a career in safety. While the energy field has tight process safety measures, the need to improve driving behaviors is great."
