The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released
preliminary aviation incident statistics for 2012, revealing that civil
aviation incidents are on the decline while general aviation incidents are on
the rise.
In 2012, there were 1,539 civil aviation incidents, as
compared to 1,550 in 2011. Numbers of general aviation incidents rose from 2011
to 2012, as did the number of those incidents that included a fatality.
However, the total number of fatalities and the incident rate per 100,000
flight hours showed a downward trend.
