EU-OSHA has released a new e-fact on best communication
practices for working with dangerous substances. It explains two recent
European regulations that aim to improve communication on dangerous substances
in the workplace.
The e-fact also provides information about different sources
of educational materials on hazardous substances and checklists for good
communication between the employer and workers.
Some of the practices promoted in the e-fact include:
- Watch for new labels and safety data sheets.
- Train workers on comprehension of new label information.
- Ensure that your use of the substance is covered on the safety data sheet and is not discouraged.
- Evaluate risks to workers and update your workplace risk assessments if needed.
- If you are an employer, communicate any changes to workers.
- Communicate with your supplier to find out about new labels and safety data sheets.
