The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and IEEE are sponsoring a challenge for anyone affiliated with an institution of higher education. The challenge focuses on this: How does electrotechnology impact economic, social and environmental development?
According to IEC, the IEC-IEEE Challenge is an opportunity for leading academia to illustrate how electrotechnology has impacted society throughout the past 100 years. Research can include topics such as waste management, environmental preservation, energy efficiency and climate change motivation or energy security. "We are appealing to the leading academic thinkers from the spheres of science, engineering, economics and beyond to demonstrate how electrotechnology has shaped and influenced how we live, work and conduct business today," says IEC CEO Ronnie Amit.
Registration closes at midnight, March 1, 2012 (UTC), and submissions must be completed by July 1, 2012. The first-place winner will receive $20,000, second place receives $15,000 and third place receives $10,000.
