Safety Management Hogwarts Style

How might Harry Potter and the other students at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approach occupational health and safety? In the latest post to its Workplace Safety Blog, Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) offers the Hogwarts Guide to Occupational Health and Safety. The guide breaks things down into five key concepts:
  1. Magic is a risky business.
  2. Do a "Dumbledore."
  3. Expect the unexpected.
  4. N.E.W.T.S vs NEBOSH.
  5. Celebrate in style.
"While at first glance it might seem a bit of a leap," RoSPA writes, "on closer inspection Hogwarts is a natural candidate for a health and safety case study. After all, this is an organization that must manage risks such as workings at heights (on broomsticks) and COSHH (potions classes) on a daily basis–not to mention being answerable to the Ministry of Magic to ensure they’re not in breach of any regulations."
