NFPA Announces Firewise Photo Contest

NFPA’s Firewise Communities Program is sponsoring a contest highlighting original photographs of Firewise plants in their natural habitat. Winning entries will be displayed in the 2013 Firewise calendar. The contest runs through March 16, 2012.

The Firewise program promotes the use of less-flammable vegetation and keeping plants, grasses, shrubs and trees well-hydrated and maintained, which helps protect the home from widlfire. "The calendar will serve as a resource for homeowners, landscapers, planners and others involved in home building and maintenance by highlighting a different plant, shrub or grass . . . that can be used to both beautify a home’s landscape and help resist embers from a wildfire," NFPA says.

Entrants may submit up to 10 unique and original photos of Firewise plants, flowers, trees, shrubs and grasses found in their region. A total of 14 photos will be selected representing each month, and the back and front covers. The winners will be announced March 23, 2012.
