Cal/OSHA Launches Confined Spaces Emphasis Program Cal/OSHA Issues Hazard Alert and Launches Confined Spaces Emphasis Program

Cal/OSHA's new confined space initiative will focus on measures that prevent worker deaths and injuries in confined spaces. The initiative follows investigations of confined space deaths and injuries in the state. In 2011, seven workers were killed in confined space incidents in California.

“Confined spaces can be deceptively dangerous,” says Cal/OSHA Chief Ellen Widess. “These fatalities are preventable with proper programs in place." The campaign stresses the importance of having plans in place to identify confined spaces, employee training and rescue planning.
