In his Writing Worth Reading review in the December 2011 issue of Professional Safety (which you'll find here), Carl Metzgar takes at look at "It Was a Freak Accident," an article published in Injury Prevention in 2011. The research article examines how the U.S. press labels injury events and in particular use of the phrase, "it was a freak accident," to describe some of the events.
As one reader has already mentioned after reading the review, the British Medical Journal banned use of the word "accident" in 2001.
What are your thoughts on the word "accident"? Do you use it or do you prefer another term?
