Free Portable Heater Brochure Provides Safety Tips

From 2005-09, NFPA reports that 3,320 fires resulted from portable space heaters. Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) urges consumers to follow 12 safety tips to ensure the safe use of heaters. Here are a few:

• Never leave an operating heater unattended.
• Read instructions and warning labels before use.
• Do not use the heater with a power strip or extension cord, as this may cause the strip to overheat.
• Keep combustible materials at least 3 ft from the heater.
