Several federal agencies have partnered to reduce exposure
to radon, a naturally occurring, invisible and odorless radioactive gas. Radon
exposure is the leading cause of nonsmoking lung cancer and leads to an
estimated 21,000 deaths each year. EPA and the Surgeon General suggest that
people test their homes for radon at least every 2 years. Through the Federal Radon Action Plan,
the agencies hope to demonstrate the importance of radon risk reduction,
address finance and incentive issues to drive testing and mitigation, and build
demand for services from industry professionals. Click here to learn more about
radon and testing strategies.
