Inspired, in part, by the lessons learned 10 years ago on Sept.
11, five groups are
partnering to conduct a study that will assess risks of fighting high-rise
fires and the efficacy of existing methods for responding to these emergencies,
while also evaluating new approaches to firefighting and building design that
could make high-rise firefighting more effective and safer for the fire service.
The research group includes the Department of Fire Protection Engineering at
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Center for Public Safety Excellence, International
Association of Fire Fighters, National Institute of Standards and Technology
and the Urban Institute.
