Job hazard analysis (JHA) is a well-known risk assessment technique that most SH&E professionals use regularly. Recently, ASSE member Paul Schuberg, safety and risk officer for the City of Portland, has seen JHA in a new light. He's spent the last month in a nonwalking cast, making life "an endless series of mental JHAs" as he works his way around his house and through day-to-day activities. "Whether you’re temporarily disabled or engaged in complex activities, nothing saves lives or prevents injuries better then a well-executed plan," he says.
