GM Releases First Sustainability Report as New Company
General Motors believes sustainability goals are best achieved when integrated into a business model, and their first global sustainability report as a new company is here to prove it. According to the report, what GM needs to grow its business is aligned with the needs of society, more specifically, the need for energy alternatives and advanced technologies that help reduce dependence on petroleum, improved fuel efficiency and emissions reductions, and bold thinking about personal mobility in the 21st century. The report details sustainability progress in the areas of designing, building, selling and reinvesting, approaching each topic in an environmentally-responsible manner. The report also reinforces GM's commitment to working with all stakeholders, from policymakers, like those in the US with whom it achieved new fuel economy standards, to business partners, such as LG in South Korea, with whom it is pushing the envelope in electric vehicle development. In addition, GM announces its commitment to a list of environmental stewardship goals over the next decade including a 20% reduction in energy intensity and a 10% reduction in total waste from its facilities.
