A classroom of fourth graders in Durham, NC, turned to solar energy to power their classroom. Their Central Park School teacher, Aaron Sebens, taught the students about the various sources of energy (e.g., solar, hydro, wind, etc.) and inspired them to make their classroom solar-powered. With the help of their parents and funding from Kickstarter, the class exceeded their goal of $800, raising more than $5,000 to fund the project. With the money, students installed solar energy panels on the roof of their building and wired the source of energy to their classroom. The video on the Department of Energy's website explains the project and shows the class "turning on" their solar-powered classroom.
