Webcast: STEPS—Strategic Targets for Excellent Performance in Safety

For those still in a food coma, here’s a recap of the lively post-lunch session, “STEPS—Strategic Targets for Excellent Performance in Safety,” from Terry Mathis, founder and CEO of Pro-Act Safety, Woodlands, TX. This and other session recordings will be available after the conference.

Most organizations, Mathis says, are putting a lot of work into safety, but they’re not seeing results. He offers an alternative to the traditional view, what he calls STEPS: Strategic targets for excellent performance in safety. It’s not the way you’re working on things, it’s what you’re working on. Focus on one thing, he says, and do it really well before moving on to the next.

What one thing can you do differently that would make the biggest difference in your organization? What will give you the most improvement? Prioritize your targets. Don’t spend your effort on doing things that will have microscopic results. Do the most important things first. Seems pretty straightforward, yet many safety pros are doing too much on the wrong things. Do you want to do two things that have an 80% result, or 39 things that have 20% result?

Even if you missed the session or the live webcast, be sure to download the presentation. It’s a jam-packed hour that will motivate and inspire.
