In its new guidance document,
"General Safe Practices for Working With Engineered Nanomaterials in Research Laboratories," NIOSH addresses the issue that research personnel may have the earliest exposure to nanomaterials. The agency recommends engineering controls and best practices for handling these materials. "The guidance document was designed to be used in tandem with well-established practices and the laboratory's chemical hygiene plan," NIOSH says.
