OSHA Issues Rule on Cranes and Derricks in Construction
OSHA has issued a direct final
rule applying the requirements of the August 2010 cranes and derricks in
construction standard to demolition work and underground construction. This
rule, which hopes to protect workers from hazards associated with hoisting
equipment, is already in use by other construction sectors. It will become
effective November 15, 2012, unless the
agency receives a significant adverse comment by September 17, to which it will continue the notice-and-comment
component of the rulemaking by withdrawing the direct final rule. Individuals
may submit comments electronically at http://www.regulations.gov,
the Federal eRulemaking Portal. Submissions may also be sent via facsimile or
mail. See the Federal
Register for details.
