OSHA Directive on Workplace Fatalities
OSHA has released a new directive that helps representatives communicate investigation procedures with victims’ families following a workplace fatality. Under the directive, OSHA representatives must speak to the victim’s family early in the inspection process, establish a point of contact and maintain a working relationship with the family. They will explain the timeline of events and provide the family with updates throughout the investigation as well. Once the investigation is closed, the agency will address findings and clarify questions to the family. If an employer has been issued citations, the family will receive copies.
