EPA has released advance notice of proposed rulemaking in the Federal Register regarding hydraulic fracturing chemicals and mixtures.EPA seeks comments regarding what information should be reported or disclosed for hydraulic fracturing chemical substances and mixtures, as well as how this information should be obtained. Mechanisms for obtaining fracking chemical information could be regulatory, voluntary or a combination of both. Other considerations include best management practices and third-party certification and collection. Additionally, EPA is soliciting comments on potential incentives could be used to prompt disclosure of chemical information and encourage the development and use of safer chemicals in hydraulic fracturing.
