To raise awareness about fire prevention strategies, NFPA and the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) have formed a partnership to promote Fire Prevention Week, a time designated to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and educate individuals and organizations about fire hazards. This year's Fire Prevention Week takes place Oct. 6 - 12.
The free online resources NFPA and ESFI are offering include:
- Fast facts about fires and the factors that cause them.
- Fact sheets about smoke alarms, scald prevention, escape planning, microwave oven safety and cooking safety.
- Educational handouts in Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French African, Indonesian, Khmer, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Vietnamese.
- Kitchen Safety Checklist.
- Information about arc fault circuit interrupters.
- Information about ground fault circuit interrupters.
- Links to other Fire Prevention Week resources, including safety videos for kids, appliance recall information and fire extinguisher safety tips.
