EPA Green Power Partnerships Hits Colleges and Universities
Jumping on the green power bandwagon are some of the country’s greatest colleges and universities. The EPA’s Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that supports environmentally-sound practices by offering expert advice, technical support, tools and resources. Through this partnership, the EPA works with an array of organizations to lower the transaction costs of buying electricity produced from a subset of renewable resources, such as solar or wind power. The recently released Top 20 College & University list represents the largest purchasers among higher education institutions within the partnership. The combined purchases of these organizations amounts to more than 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours of green power annually, which is the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power more than 121,000 average American homes annually.
