NTSB Calls for Lower Threshold for Impaired Driving

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is calling for all U.S. states to adopt a lower blood-alchol content (BAC) for determining when a driver is legally drunk. If adopted, the recommendation would lower the current limit from 0.08 BAC to 0.05.

According to NTSB, the idea is part of an initiative to eliminate drunken driving, which the agency says accounts for about a third of all road deaths. The change would reportedly save about 500 to 800 lives every year.
