DIY Safety

When we think of do-it-yourself, we usually think of some house project like changing out that leaky faucet or rebricking the crumbling patio or painting the living room. But, can DIY apply to safety? According to Robert Pater and Ron Bowles, the answer is a resounding yes. "Ultimately, because personal responsibility is important, highest-level personal safety has to be done by people themselves," they write in their Leading Thoughts column in the January 2012 issue of Professional Safety.

Pater and Bowles offer up seven strategies that SH&E professionals can use to "elevate safety performance by both tapping into existing DIY interests and enhancing DIY in others."
